With the apricot season around the corner, De Krans Wine Cellar situated in the quaint town of Calitzdop, will be offering visitors to the area the opportunity to pick delectably sweet Bulida apricots at the farm. Already famous for their Hanepoot picking, which takes place during February and March each year, visitors to De Krans will be able to pick apricots from 24 November until 4 December, every day (except Sundays) from 08h00 until 16h00.
The apricots cost R3.80/kg and visitors are welcome to bring their own containers. Alternatively containers can be purchased at De Krans at a nominal fee.
As part of their annual fundraising projects, the Vygieshof Home for the Aged will offer visitors a tasty braaivleis on 24 and 27 November, and then again on 1 and 4 December at De Krans. To avoid disappointment, as their meals are extremely popular, visitors are urged to book their meals beforehand.
A visit to De Krans — the Peter Schulz Port Challenge 2010 winner for its Cape Tawny Port — affords visitors the opportunity to sample their wide range of popular ports and wines. One of these is the De Krans Pink Port, the first of its kind to be launched in South Africa and a gold winner at the 2009 Michelangelo Wine Awards.
