If there is one place that stood out for photographer Tania Thompson Poole in a nearly 3,500km road trip it is Lagoon Lodge outside Stanford – “it is a place I want to come back to one day for a special occasion.”
Lagoon Lodge is the ultimate romantic getaway. It’s located in MOSAIC Private Sanctuary, one of South Africa’s hidden gems on the famous Cape Whale Coast. It’s a multi-faceted guest experience. You will be immersed in the awesome flora and bird-life of the Cape Floral Kingdom, secluded beaches and sand dunes, lagoon cruises, fresh cuisine, outstanding wine and warm, friendly staff to serve you.
Boardwalks under a canopy of Milkwood trees lead to the lounge where drinks, meals and conversation are shared outdoors or the fireplace that will warm your soul. The heated plunge pool overlooking the mountains is a favourite place for bird-watching. As evening falls, witness the exquisite colours of the sun setting and the glorious expanse of the star-filled South African sky.
Stays are inclusive of all meals (gourmet dinner, hearty breakfast, picnic lunch), house wine/beer/spirits, welcome drink, and all activities on Mosaic: Beach excursion, boat cruise on the lagoon, kayaking, quad biking, guided bird watching and nature tour.
Fabulous treatments in the Mosaic Rain Spa, shark-cage diving and boat-based whale watching can be reserved at additional costs.

Mosaic also has self-catering cottages a little further up Wortelgat Road. And that’s also where you’ll find one of the biggest surprises in the whole of the Overberg – The Spookhuis! – and one of my favourite destinations.
